The Family FOCCUS Initiative (“FFI”) is an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit certified organization develop by three families (Bryant "emeritus", Maddox, and Moore) as a value-added at-risk community outreach organization.
The foundation’s leaders come from a broad spectrum of backgrounds and have skillsets diversity of expertise and experience that spans science and technology, medicine, law, education, and business encompassing an inclusive environment where team members feel comfortable sharing their unique insights.
Our leaders are guided by the foundation’s mission to focus on equipping youth and young adults with Life etiquette skills and surrounding them with Mentors and allow them to experience the real love of God and help them to create a world in which every person has the opportunity to live a healthy, productive life.
FFI is a Gastonia, North Carolina based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the at-risk communities of Gaston County, encompassing cohorts of people or geographic areas that are more likely to experience adverse conditions. These conditions can be socioeconomic, environmental, or systemic.
Our leadership team members share a strong commitment to actionable activities as a big part of why we started our foundation. From early childhood, we saw how our parents helped out in our local communities, and we were taught that anything is possible and to pursue leveraging our ancestors’ lessons teaching us to give back and to be optimistic about the future.
Therefore, we strive to partner with high schools, faith groups, businesses, and local government to support an uplifting future for the at-risk public-school students, knowing that no one organization can afford to do this alone.
We focus on making the maximum "Pay It Forward" as the foundation of our youth, young adult and community attempts to make the world a better place, guided by the theme “Be the Change You Want to See in The World.”
This theme reminds us that the objective of our “pay it forward” efforts is to perform simple, daily acts of kindness and community support designed to promote better academic performance and healthier lives for the affected students and their families, while also promoting stronger, happier families and communities.
Our organization’s mission is focused on equipping youth and young adults with Life etiquette skills and surrounding them with Mentors and allow them to experience the real love of God by interweaving all available resources into a loving quality-of-life quilt that embraces the “at-risk” population and enables them to attain the food security, academic skills, knowledge-base, and self-motivations required to be self-sufficient
Commencement is the culmination of the hard work and resources students put into their diplomas. It is a time to celebrate and honor the graduates as well as recognize the support given by family and friends to reach the day of earning a high school diploma. A lack of funds to purchase a cap and gown should never be a barrier to participation in this penultimate experience.
On April 23, 2021, Sarah McArver at Hunter Huss High School felt the need to reach out to FFI with a Special Request asking us to help a group of seniors who are having a difficult time purchasing caps and gowns for graduation. Without hesitation, FFI embraced this at-risk youth need and aggressively “leaned-forward” on raising the funding necessary to ensure these future scholars and inheritors of the world could walk proudly with their fellow graduates on their earned graduation day.
It was amazing that within only three (3) days of receiving Sarah’s request and Due to the generosity of FFI supporters, we were humbled and honored to say that FFI has exceeded its goal of raising the funds for thirty (30) cap and gowns sets. "The impact of The Family FOCCUS Initiative on students and families at Hunter Huss this year has been immeasurable. From needed school and classroom supplies to daily necessary items like bottled water and emergency snacks, I can say with certainty that nearly all our students have benefited from this generous organization. Many of our families were also served during the holidays with special meal kits, enabling them to enjoy a nutritious family holiday meal that might have otherwise not been possible. It has been an exceptionally difficult year for many in our school family; the monthly gifts to our school are a regular reminder to our students and staff that we are all cared for and supported by our community. As always, our ultimate goal is to help our students be successful and this kind of support helps us in this endeavor." Sarah McArver
“We are so grateful to have been chosen as a donation recipient by The Family Foccus Initiative. The items that Janet Maddox and her team have provided to our program allows us to continue to meet the basic needs of our shelter residents and while also providing residents with paper products and cleaning supplies to take with them into their independent housing. We have seen recently a rise in women coming in with young children which has increased our need for pack and plays. The Family Foccus Initiative has provided us with the ability to promote safe sleeping practices for these families during their shelter stay and afterwards. We feel extremely blessed to have community partners that understand the impact this pandemic has had on families experiencing domestic violence and their commitment to helping the families we are serving.” Brittany Inskeep Froning, MSW, LCSW
